Andrew Omoding

Andrew’s description of creating artwork for “Animals to Remember Uganda”, Camden Arts Centre, 2024

“Brilliant I enjoy a lot.
Making cows and Karatomee, Yaron and the horns. I done head and tail and body.
I use materials don’t throw away, give it to me, I’m making.
Me want to make to look good. I made cows before long time and choose pictures for Camden Arts Centre.
I like work in studios and people working with me, just to helping.

So animals great, story come second. Give it to exhibition to take somewhere.
Happy choose music, some singing and enjoy it myself, Jambo!
Come to visit, watch I’m doing, doing well and good team. Talk about my work.
Enjoy it, enjoy myself and happy to come see it exhibition.”

Andrew Omoding’s work is intuitive and instinctive. Andrew creates large-scale sculptural forms by reimagining found objects and materials through his tacit knowledge of form, shape and construction. His largely autobiographical works emerge intuitively – reclaiming abandoned materials from his immediate surroundings, Andrew systematically layers, wraps and binds them into vibrant assemblages of contrasting colour texture and form.

Much of Andrew’s work involves storytelling and performance, incorporating music and both written and spoken language. His performative improvised productions often involve procession, dancing and song, all of which demand participation and activation of his sculptural work through their musical or ceremonial capabilities.
