“I use watercolour, oil pastels, acrylic, collage.

I make pictures of the things that I can see from my head. I like making pictures of transparent things like icicles and glass, showing colourlessness and finding all the colours hidden in transparent things. I also like making artworks of reflections.

I like drawing the sky because it has lots of different colours coming up. Orange, red, purple, blue – sunsets, sunrises, nighttime, daytime and blood moons.

Many of my artworks are about colour.

I make artworks of different textures in nature – leaves, grass, flowers, animals.

I make pictures that are beautiful and have different things coming up like dark and light, shadows, transparent objects, blurriness, details and textures.

I do still lifes, landscapes and portraits.

I do logos sometimes because I’m interested in the objects and colours and shapes in them.

Art makes me feel happy and calm, and I enjoy imagining new things.”

Donald creates figurative artworks that are inspired by the natural world and human history. Donald’s inspiration comes from animals and plants, landscapes and space, the universe and people.

He works intuitively and regularly finds new sources to work with, sometimes blending source images with his own creative imagination. Donald works primarily in oil pastel, paint and pencil, carefully building up layers of colour to show sharp details and flowing landscapes in the natural world. His intentional use of light and shade add depth to his scenes, setting his work somewhere between realism and abstraction.
