An exhibition showcasing a year-long collaboration between ActionSpace artist Declan Leslie, Lucie Macgregor, Tom James and pupils from Swiss Cottage School and The Village School.
19 July – 8 September 2024
Camden Art Centre, Arkwright Road, London, NW3 6DG
Den! brought together a year’s worth of experimentation and discovery into a series of interactive installations and artworks that combined familiar materials into something entirely new. Exploring themes of shelter, waste and abundance this exhibition featured works created throughout the year alongside new and expanded installations.
In a series of workshops, the artists and participants used a range of materials foraged from the Camden Art Centre garden (berries, twigs, leaves) and items found in local streets (wood, laundry bags, chicken wire, fabric). These abundant and abandoned resources were repurposed through processes such as burning twigs to make charcoal, breaking apart and felting wool, smushing berries to make ink. Combining these transformed tools and materials the group collaborated on artworks to create a wealth of new materials including felt sheets, woven panels and metres of painted calico.
This exhibition was part of Camden Art Centre’s long-running programme of workshops working with SEN Schools and neurodivergent young people which ActionSpace artist Declan Leslie was employed as a co-workshop leader on the programme, along with artist Lucie Macgregor and Tom James.
