ActionSpace artist Andrew Omoding presented a new solo exhibition at Woodend Gallery, Scarborough

ActionSpace artist Andrew Omoding‘s solo exhibition titled Welcome to Me, Scarborough. To See and Hold My Work opened at Woodend Gallery in Scarborough. For this ambitious exhibition, Andrew fused inspiration from the local fishing community in Scarborough with his memories and experiences of Uganda. He used the Gallery’s archive of books, photographs, objects and artefacts as sources of inspiration and visited locations around Scarborough including the many architectural highlights, the fishing port and arcades. These points of inspiration were recreated by Andrew in his studio at ActionSpace making new hybrid forms, giving traditional coastal objects a new lens through which to be seen. This was Andrew’s first solo exhibition outside of London.

“Over Easter weekend I was thrilled to get along to Andrew’s solo exhibition in Scarborough and in true Andrew style, it did not fail to bring a smile to my face. The video accompanying the fisherman flags was Andrew at his best, and seeing his joy definitely lifted the spirits of the people I was with too. The second room of hats and large scale fish sculptures, as well as the written story on fabric, really engaged the viewer into the types of things that interest Andrew and how his works develop from the conversations he has and the sights he sees. I really recommend you see this show – it’s fun, engaging and fascinating to see what he does with found local objects.”
