ActionSpace artist Nnena Kalu exhibits in Tageldimde/Middlegate in Geel, Belgium
15 September – 17 December
At four locations: Expo room de Halle, cc de Werft, Jan Hoethuis and AB building in Geel, Belgium
Nnena Kalu was invited to create a new body of sculptural work for Tageldimde/Middlegate in Geel, Belgium. Curated by curator Pierre Muylle and Philippe Van Cauteren, Artistic Director of S.M.A.K., Tageldimde/Middlegate presented a series of exhibitions across different sites in the centre of Geel. Working directly on site, Nnena developed a series of site-sensitive sculptures created out of reformed previous sculptural pieces bound into new configurations by densely layering VHS tapes, masking tapes and paper.
Works in Progress
We share some photos from behind the scenes of Nnena working on-site in Geel. Over the course of five days Nnena constructed the site-sensitive works, binding and wrapping a variety of materials to form these elongated forms.
This was the third edition of the expo following Middlegate 1 in 2013 and Middlegate 2 in 2018.
