In this live session, Claudia Williams invites participants to draw alongside her as she works in real time, creating a bold new body of work. Taking inspiration from her distinctive drawing approach, participants will explore the wide range of themes that run through Claudia’s practice, including portraiture, music, television programmes, shop signs and food logos.

Music plays a central role in Claudia’s work. Her deep knowledge and passion for Reggae and R&B feature throughout her drawings, from record labels and musicians to album titles and cover artwork. During the event, Claudia will share a curated playlist of her favourite music, alongside selected drawings from her extensive archive.

Participants are encouraged to create their own drawings throughout the session. At the end of the event, Claudia invites everyone to present their own mini exhibition and share their work with the rest of the group.

Claudia Williams creates striking collections of bold, graphic drawings influenced by popular culture and the visual design of the 1970s and 1980s. Her work brings together imagery from television programmes, shop signage and food branding, alongside recurring themes of portraiture and music. Reggae and R&B are a constant presence, with musicians such as Bob Marley, Dionne Warwick and Al Green frequently appearing. Many drawings merge self-portraits and family members with musical figures.

Text plays an important role in Claudia’s work. She often includes her name, the date the work was created, song lyrics, and the names of people and musicians. These written elements overlap and combine, forming layered titles and unexpected connections. Claudia is highly prolific, driven by a strong need to creatively express herself, producing up to twenty drawings a day. Each drawing is carefully curated into ordered layouts on her studio wall.
