Sheryll Catto is appointed as ActionSpace’s new Artistic Director & CEO
We are pleased to announce Sheryll Catto (previously Co-Director) as ActionSpace’s new Artistic Director & CEO. After fifteen years as Co-Director of ActionSpace, Sheryll’s new role marks an exciting chapter in the development of the organisation as ActionSpace continues to grow and create opportunities for learning disabled artists.
Sheryll comments:
“I would like to thank the Board of Trustees for offering me this opportunity to continue the work Barbara van Heel and I started some fifteen years ago to develop ActionSpace as a sector leader, advocating for greater inclusion and diversity within the arts and cultural sectors and working in partnership with a growing list of key visual arts organisations to model how this can be done.
ActionSpace has come far, but there is still a lot to do. I will continue working with the Board and our wonderful team of staff and freelancers to create opportunities for learning disabled artists, encouraging them to dream big and supporting them to realise their potential.”
John Tizard, ActionSpace’s Chair of the Board of Trustees, shares what this new role means for ActionSpace:
“We welcome Sheryll to her new role as Artistic Director and Chief Executive Officer. Sheryll has been Co-Director at ActionSpace for over fifteen years and has made a massive contribution to the development of the organisation and the creative achievements of many ActionSpace artists.
As Artistic Director and Chief Executive Officer, Sheryll will lead ActionSpace as it sets out to grow its reach, strengthen its impact, enhance its influence, and live its mission.
Sheryll will be responsible for the strategic, operational, and artistic leadership of the organisation.
Sheryll brings a unique combination of professional experience and a passion for ActionSpace’s mission to this new role. For Sheryll it is not just about advocating for the rights and entitlements of learning disabled artists, but about ensuring that they receive the support, facilities, and opportunities to realise their artistic potential.
Sheryll is recognised as a sector leader. We are very fortunate that she is now our Artistic Director and Chief Executive Officer. I am personally very excited and enthused by the opportunity to work with Sheryll in her new role, as are all our trustees.”
