ActionSpace’s Artistic Director and CEO, Sheryll Catto, will take part in The Therapeutic Nature of Art, a public talk exploring the healing potential of creative practice. The event is hosted as part of the public programme for the exhibition Grayson Perry: Delusions of Grandeur, and will take place at the museum on Monday 30 June 2025, with an online broadcast available via Zoom.

Bringing together speakers from across disciplines, including psychiatry, textile art, and inclusive arts practice, the discussion will reflect on how creativity supports emotional resilience, wellbeing, and social connection.

Sheryll Catto will be joined by Dr David O’Flynn, curator of the Adamson Collection and former consultant psychiatrist at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, and Celia Pym, a textile artist working with themes of care and repair.

The conversation will centre on the work of artists working outside traditional systems, often referred to as ‘outsider artists’, and consider how art-making, mending and therapeutic expression intersect in both individual and societal contexts.

Chaired by the museum’s public programme team, the talk draws from themes of identity, self-expression, and power explored in Grayson Perry: Delusions of Grandeur, while offering broader reflections on the place of care in contemporary art.

In-person attendees will be invited to a drinks reception and extended exhibition visit following the talk, with opportunities for informal discussion and book signings. Online attendees will receive a viewing link and access to a recording for two weeks following the event.
