Arts and mental health charity Hospital Rooms have commissioned 13 major artworks for the new NHS Kingfisher inpatient service in Bristol for adults with serious mental health challenges who are autistic and/or have a learning disability. Extraordinary artists have worked with patients, NHS staff and people with lived experience of mental health services to create these inventive interventions. Each artwork is made in response to the sensory experience of the people who receive care within this ward, and enables their environment to bring them imagination, creativity and hope for the future.
Our friends at Hospital Rooms are presenting some of the artworks at Create Centre, Bristol, from 9 to 21 May, and telling the stories behind them. You can explore artist’s preparatory work and plans, artworks from our collaborative workshops and gain unique insight into how public artworks are developed, particularly in the sphere of mental health.
Artists include: Peter Adjaye, Rubbena Aurangzeb-Tariq, Hannah Brown, Victoria Cantons, Dhaqan Collective, Angela Harding, Christopher Hartmann, Mohammed Imran Khan, Chris Rose & Louise Morgan, Phil Root & Bristol Autism Spectrum Service, Veronica Ryan, and Boo Saville.

In partnership with Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust. Supported by Arts Council England and the Hiscox Foundation. The cultural partners are Arnolfini, ActionSpace, Art in Motion and Spike Island. Research Partner is University of the West of England Bristol.
