Explore Patrick Moses’ sound piece No Touching for Disability Arts Online Covid Commission
No Touching is a new sound piece by ActionSpace artist Patrick Moses. Patrick was awarded a Disability Arts Online Covid Commission to create a new work that explores the theme of connectivity.
Patrick uses words as aesthetic objects, organising their phonetic and visual shapes to create textural compositions. The words, collected in his sketchbooks, are influenced by places that he knows, games, songs, films and food. Patrick’s recent work reflects a response to his experience of lockdown and restricted social interaction.
For the sound piece No Touching Patrick Moses has recorded the text and words featured in his most recent artworks, tracing his experience over the last 6 months. Patrick has collaborated with a sound artist to fuse these recordings with the sounds and movements of his mixed media practice. No Touching echoes Patrick’s visual practice as he explores the connectivity between the sound and shape of words. The sounds of words are especially important to Patrick, as much as the words’ meaning and how they look visually.
The accompanying visual mixed media works present an energetic and vibrant representation of the layers of sounds that Patrick collects and portrays through the words, shape, line and colour.
