Nnena Kalu is Shortlisted for the Turner Prize 2025

ActionSpace artist Nnena Kalu has been shortlisted for the Turner Prize, one of the most prestigious awards in contemporary British art.

Nnena has been nominated for two major presentations of her work:

  • Hanging Sculpture 1–10, presented as part of Manifesta 15, Barcelona (8 September – 24 November 2024).

  • Her presentation in Conversations, a group exhibition at Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool (19 October 2024 – 9 March 2025).

The jury commended her unique command of material, colour and gesture, and her highly attuned responses to architectural space.

This year’s Turner Prize exhibition will be hosted by Cartwright Hall Art Gallery in Bradford, as part of the city’s UK City of Culture 2025 programme. The prize also marks the 250th anniversary of JMW Turner’s birth, making this a particularly significant year for the award.

The winner will receive £25,000, with £10,000 awarded to each of the other shortlisted artists. Their work will be presented in a group exhibition opening in September 2025, with the winner announced during a televised ceremony in December.

The 2025 Turner Prize jury includes:

  • Andrew Bonacina, Curator, Monsoon Art Collection
  • Sam Lackey, Director, Liverpool Biennial
  • Priyesh Mistry, Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Projects, National Gallery
  • Habda Rashid, Senior Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Fitzwilliam Museum.

The jury is chaired by Alex Farquharson, Director of Tate Britain.
