Listen to the Shade podcast featuring Nnena Kalu
ActionSpace artist Nnena Kalu is featured on Interludes, a new collaboration from Shade Podcast and Axel KacoutiĆ©. The episode ‘Mandala’ features the sounds of the artist Nnena Kalu creating a drawing in her studio and the voice of Associate Artist, Charlotte Hollinshead. Axel visited Nnena in her studio at Studio Voltaire to record a soundscape of Nenna’s rhythmically layered drawing practice.
Interludes explores the question “What does healing sound like?”. Each episode weaves the artists’ reflections through Axel’s original soundscapes, as a collaborative exploration of their creative experience. The aim is to soften a tendency to intellectualise artwork, and instead create a sonic texture that is more intimate in its connection with the artist.
Artists featured in the series include Ming Smith, Amy Sherald, Phoebe Boswell, Nnena Kalu, Rahima Gambo & Cassi Namoda.
