ActionSpace Artist Imran Khan Commissioned for Unique Artwork at The Kingfisher Hospital

ActionSpace artist Imran Khan has been commissioned to create a series of artworks for The Kingfisher, a new service being developed for individuals with learning disabilities and autism who require specialist mental health treatment. The commission comes as part of a collaborative project between ActionSpace and Hospital Rooms. This installation will serve as a permanent and supportive feature of The Kingfisher, contributing to an uplifting and calming environment for all who use the space. The new 10 bed facility is currently being built in Bristol and run by Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP).

About the Commission

Imran Khan is one of 11 artists selected to take part in this exciting project, which aims to create a series of permanent, site-specific artworks for hospital wards that will make a positive and lasting impact on the people using the services. Imran’s artwork series, developed through consultation, will be tailored specifically for The Kingfisher hospital, a space designed to provide specialist care to individuals in need of intensive mental health support.

Since April 2025, Imran has been working with the Hospital Rooms team who have delivered workshops in response to Imran‘s practice with patients and staff at the hospital, as well as local
cultural venues with members of the community who have lived experience of mental health services. These workshops have guided the development of the final artwork, ensuring the artwork is a meaningful reflection of the community it serves.

Currently in the production phase, the final installation is planned to be finished and unveiled in Spring 2026. Stay tuned for further updates soon.
