Artist Spotlight: Patricia Morgan

Step inside the world of Patricia Morgan

Each month, Artist Spotlight celebrates the unique voices of ActionSpace artists. For July, we were excited to shine a light on Patricia Morgan with a special one-day exhibition Funny Weather. Discover the inspirations behind her colourful drawings and experience the unique playfulness that defines her work.

Funny Weather

This focused display brought together an evolving body of self-portraits alongside drawings of clothes, animals, and moments from everyday life, a world Patricia builds one image at a time. Her drawings are often dated in her own distinctive hand, a mark of the time, place and rhythm that shape her creative life.

Taken from a phrase Patricia says often, Funny Weather captures the spirit of her work, unexpected, joyful, and open to interpretation. The title reflects her interest in the everyday, and speaks to the atmosphere her drawings create: recognisable, yet gently skewed.

About the Artist

Patricia Morgan creates drawings and occasional sculptural works that celebrate the textures of daily life, birthdays, Halloween, Easter, Christmas, and other moments of joy and festivity. Her work is rich with colour, character and humour, often shaped by the repetition of familiar themes: cats, clothes, faces, and the weather. Her self-portraits, in particular, form a striking visual diary, capturing shifts in mood, style and focus over time.

Working primarily on A4 paper with mixed media, Patricia’s approach is instinctive and direct. She often includes short phrases or single words in her images, “Like Custard” or “Nice Weather”, lifted from her own spoken reflections. These quiet, poetic fragments add another layer of personality and presence to the work.

While she once worked across a range of media, recent years have seen Patricia focus more on drawing, where her expressive line and bold forms continue to evolve. Her practice is grounded in celebration and repetition, creating a visual language all her own, one that feels both intimate and universal.
