Our May 2026 Artist Spotlight is pointing firmly at Mohammed ‘Imran’ Khan. Based at ActionSpace’s studio in Brent, Imran works with a variety of materials, carefully considering the surface, placement and pattern he creates. With a strong sense of colour and form, he works abstractly shaping blocks of colour. Imran often works into the surface of paintings to strip back through layers of paint to complete larger works or series of smaller works.
Artist Facilitator, Emily Rees-Haynes says: “Imran is very proud of his work and loves being in the studio.”

Hospital Rooms Commission
In autumn of 2025, Imran completed a commission for the The Kingfisher Hospital in Bristol. He created a new body of work based on input from the service users at the hospital of the colours that they wanted in their space.
Some of this work will be on display at The Create Centre in Bristol from Friday May 8 to Friday May 22, and the remainder will be permanently installed at the hospital later this year. The commission comes as part of a collaborative project between ActionSpace and Hospital Rooms. This installation will serve as a permanent and supportive feature of The Kingfisher, contributing to an uplifting and calming environment for all who use the space. The new 10 bed facility is currently being built in Bristol and run by Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP).

Big Lottery Project in Brent
As part of a three-year project – 2024 to 2027 – ActionSpace’s Brent studio, led by Artist Facilitator Emily Rees-Haynes, is putting on a series of creative workshops for Brent’s learning disabled community. Made possible by support from The National Lottery Community Fund, these workshops are held at our Brent studio at ASC Ealing Road and delivered over 3-6 months in partnership with other Brent-based organisations. Imran co-facilitated one of the workshops with students from Woodfield School, to create a backdrop for our portrait studio, which was used during A New Direction’s I Am Festival.

Kilburn High Road Project
Imran completed work inspired by Kilburn High Road with the support of set designer Christianna Mason. This work is being interpreted by Christianna into a large-scale piece that will be on display along Kilburn High Road in August 2026. This is part of the Kilburn High Road Project led by Kiln theatre.
