ActionSpace presents Where The Heart Is as part of this year’s Summer Open Studios at Cockpit Arts in Holborn.
The idea of ‘home’ has always been a rich source of inspiration for artists, from Pierre Bonnard’s radiant and mysterious domestic interiors to Rachel Whiteread’s spectral cast of a the space inside a house. Home may be a familiar place, a feeling, object or something entirely imagined.
Where the Heart Is will feature new work by the 32 artists based at ActionSpace’s North London studio at Cockpit Arts. Exploring the theme of Home, there will be wide and diverse range of work, from drawing and painting to sculpture and model making.
The exhibition is curated by the artist and educator Pia Bramley. Pia makes small-scale drawings in pencil and ink, as well as monotype and woodcut prints. Her work often begins with a drawing of a domestic space, and explores the mundane and mysteriousness of daily life. She runs drawing workshops for young people across London, and leads the ActionSpace project at Greenwood Place in Kentish Town.
