4 February – 7 May 2023
MK Gallery, 900 Midsummer Blvd Milton Keynes, MK9 3QA
ActionSpace artist Nnena Kalu presented a series of new drawings in Trickster Figures: Sculpture and the Body curated by curator Jes Fernie at MK Gallery.
Trickster Figures presented the next chapter in the story of British sculpture, bringing together a selection of works by eleven contemporary artists. The exhibition explored the body’s newly configured relation to the world which involves increasingly fluid movement between binary systems, technology, human forms, animals, identities, and the environment.
Encompassing sculpture in its widest sense, the exhibition included play, touch and sound. Works made from crab shells, tree roots, shopping bags, and hosiery sat alongside a dance floor and a water fountain. The exhibition included elements that changed and grew, sculptures that were made to be worn, and things that will never be finished.
Exhibiting artists included Saelia Aparicio, Alice Channer, Jesse Darling, Nicolas Deshayes, Kira Freije, Siobhán Hapaska, Nnena Kalu, Joe Namy, Harold Offeh, Ro Robertson, Vanessa da Silva.
