This exhibition marks a three month journey undertaken by participants in an ActionSpace outreach project with John Billam Resource Centre, Brent. Working with experimental and imaginative approaches to making, the art presented in the exhibition documents the new territories these artists have explored in their processes.

Though We’ve Only Just Begun shows the final works produced in John Billam Resource Centre, it hints at what more we will come to see from these artists in the future and of the creative path that lies ahead for them.

“In weekly sessions over the course of three months, these artists have worked with enthusiasm and impressive commitment to create a large and ambitious collection of work. The display you see here is just a small selection of the wonderful art produced.

The studio environment has been both focused and high energy, with a range of experimental and imaginative approaches to making artwork. The studio project began with open exploratory workshops making interactive sculptural work, and from this starting point a studio project developed. Some of the participants choose to work independently, making new work each week or slowly developing individual pieces. Another small group formed a lively collaboration, working together to build playful sculptural spaces, using cameras to document the artworks as they changed and each other as their process developed.

The beauty and diversity of the work produced in such a short space of time is testament to the strength of every individual’s working practice. “
