Umar Ravat is an enquiring, thoughtful artist. Research is an important part to his practise and he intensively reads before creating a drawing or painting. He is interested in history, nature, science and technology and all things mystical which is reflected in his practice. There is often a strong spiritual element to his work, involving ‘presences’ and emanations, alien life forms and utopian visions. Umar Ravat works with a variety of media including ink, charcoal and pastel and he sometimes uses found artwork to paint over.
Umar Ravat enjoys looking at art, and particularly likes expressionistic and surreal genres, with Jean-Michel Basquiat, René Magritte and Max Ernst among his favourites.
